I have been a general contractor for many decades. However, on occasion other members of my family decide that they are going to take on a home DIY projects. I think that is great, but sometimes the end result yields more work for me than if I would have just done the job myself. See photos below.

An unnamed family member decided to mount a laundry room bracket directly into the wallboard. Naturally, it didn’t hold once a load was placed on it.
I used a stud locator (far right in the photo) to locate the stud closest to the damaged wall. I then mounted a scrap piece of wood at that spot using some wood screws.
I then mounted the bracket over those screws hiding them.
All done, nice and professional!
