A customer wanted me to remove some cabinets in her home office. This would normally be a simple job. However, when we took the cabinets out we discovered that the room’s hardwood floor didn’t extend beneath them. This presented several issues. Most floor standard planks are 3 1/4″ wide. These floors were only 3″ wide. I had to do quite a bit of searching to find some unfinished 3″ floor planks, but I eventually succeeded. We then had to sand the entire floor and match the color to the homeowner’s adjacent rooms. See below for the process and the end result.

You can see the subfloor underneath the former cabinets.
We had to take out additional planks so we could weave in the new flooring in an unobtrusive manner.
Job done! We only had to sand and refinish this one room as there was a dividing board between the rooms which provided a natural break to hide any differences in the floor finish.
