Wood floors are both robust and fragile. It is common for them to have areas of damage that need more than a simple sanding. I’m doing a kitchen remodel in a home where I moved a wall and an island. Additionally, there was damage by the patio door. See photos below to see how I returned that floor to new.

Here you can see two areas of repair. The long one was where we removed a wall. The roundish one is were we removed an island.
The blue line is a point of demarcation. We partially sanded the floor as to do the entire house would have been three times the cost. Naturally, you can’t promise perfection when doing this, but I think the results turned out excellent.
Floor completed. You would never know that the floor had major damage to it.
