The townhouse that I’m renovating had a living space that consisted of three blocked off rooms, the kitchen, the dining room, and the living room. I wanted to open all of these rooms into one great room. The old dining room had a bay window, and I felt that that space would be better served by a patio door.

Patio doors come in a variety of qualities. I wanted privacy, and this mean having a patio door that had its own internal shade. I also wanted excellent insulation. The door that I choose had two panels of sealed glass which had Argon gas in between the panels. This provided excellent insulation. The shade was also internal, but it was placed between the insulated panels and an additional glass door. This is a higher quality method of construction.

The photos below show the transition form window to door.
