Sometimes what sounds like a simple job is pretty complex. A customer had their finished basement flood which damaged the box of a cabinet. Unfortunately, this cabinet was part of a series of cabinets that also had a granite countertop.

The plan was to replace the old cabinet box with a new one while return the original doors and hardware. However, a problem existed. Granite can be brittle and I was afraid that it would crack once I removed the support from the cabinet. It took more time and effort but I built a supportive structure to ensure that the countertop stayed intact. I replaced the box and put on the original doors and hardware. Good as new! See photos below.

You can’t see the damage on the cabinet on the far right from this photo, but it bothered the customer. Note that the granite countertop extends for ten feet.
I “surgically” removed the old cabinet and built a temporary support to ensure that the granite was safe.
New box in, and the old doors and hardware have been placed. No one would ever know that that cabinet was damaged. And the granite remained intact! A little planning can avoid a lot of grief.
