A customer wanted to upgrade his downdraft fan with traditional ceiling mounted hood. Downdraft fans are often poor choices. See photos for details.

I had to remove a can light.
I went into the attic and drilled a pilot hole making sure to avoid the joist. I used this hole as the center point for a homemade protractor.
I made an exit hole using a jigsaw.
I routed the vent through the ceiling. I build the triangular support so I could attach the heavy hood.
Here is the second part of the vent. This portion goes up to the roof.
