I did a recent post on foam insulation. To put that insulation down we had to remove the customer’s old inferior insulation. I thought it may be interesting to see how that is done. See the photos below.

Here you see the original insulation. Below the blow-in insulation are batts of insulation.
The batts have to be removed manually. Here you can see them ready for disposal stored in large bags.
To remove the blow-in insulation we use a huge vacuum cleaner. This is the same machine that would be use to place blown-in insulation.
Here is the attic all cleaned out and ready for foam insulation.
