I’m remodeling a kitchen and laundry room, which involves removing some of the home’s exterior siding that I need to replace. I had to fabricate a custom piece of flashing as part of that repair. I purchased a coil of aluminum trim and then used a bending brake to size and fabricate it into the piece of flashing that I needed.

A bending brake is a large tool that holds and bends metal sheets to fabricate exterior elements, such as window and door casings, porch and deck posts, and, in this case, custom flashing. See the photos below.

I’m taking a piece of aluminum coil and locking it into the brake so I can cut it to size.
I’m now scoring it.
A quick bend to break off the unwanted portion.
I’m now repositioning the remaining piece.
I’m bending an edge as I start to form the custom flashing.
Here is the edge that I made.
Now its time for a second bend.
The finished product!
This is where I’ll place the flashing that I fabricated.

Job done!
